How It Works

SX1

The SX1 combines a sophisticated GPS receiver with a state of the art satellite transmitter to create a device that can tell you where it is from almost anywhere in the world. Using an Internet browser, you can view the positions transmitted by the device from where ever you are whenever you want to.  The device is designed to transmit its location twice a day to let you know all is well. If the device starts moving, it will transmit its position every 15-minutes until it stops moving. This way you know when your boat is in motion, whether you expect it to be moving or not. All the position reports are stored on our secure server where you can access them using your favorite browser. Access is password protected and all data is sent over the Internet using a secure connection (https). You can view positions on a map or generate a report of when and where the boat has been.

When each position arrives at our server, you have the option to automatically send it via email to one or more addresses. You may setup different email addresses for the daily check-in messages and for the in-motion messages (or not). For example, you could have the daily check-in messages automatically emailed to your mobile telephone* and have any in-motion messages sent to your email. This way you always receive the check-in messages and know the boat is OK. When you check your email you'll find out whether the boat has moved or not. If the movement is unexpected you can immediately start inquiring why.

The SX1 also has the ability to transmit an alert message on demand. With the turn of a key, you can send an alert message and position. The server can be setup to handle this message differently than the other two providing  This gives you with the ability to send your location immediately to people you trust to respond. Whether it is a breakdown or more serious issue, you know  exactly who receives it and that they will respond.

Mounting the SX1 is straight forward; it needs to be positioned so that it has a good view of the sky it all directions. If you wish to mount it discretely out of sight, it can be mounted under a deck or under the dash. The device communicate through most plastics and fiberglass and up to 3/4 of plywood. We are happy to assist you to determine a location for mounting the SX1 but we always advise people to try it first to make sure before making the installation permanent. The only other task required to complete the installation is to connect the SX1 to ship power. We supply the necessary cables, you decide where to install the device, where to install the alert switch, and how to run the cables. If you have no time to do it yourself, we're happy to put you in contact with an authorized installer.

The SX1 is powered by either ship power or a replaceable internal back-up battery.  If ship power fails, for any reason, the SX1 automatically switches to its internal battery and will continue to function for up to a year.

Secursat offers a maintenance/upgrade/rerogramming/insurance (MURI) package for a low annual fee. The customer must pay shipping to return the device to Secursat but the MURI package will cover unlimited reprogramming of the SX1 unit, all maintenance for any part of the unit or its accessories(cables, etc.), any hardware or software upgrades that Secursat releases,  and damages caused by water or environment. MURI will not cover deliberate or accidental abuse or loss.

* The email message is converted to a text message by the mobile telephone service provider before forwarding it to your telephone. Not all mobile telephone service providers support this feature so please contact your service provider to determine whether the feature is available to you and if so what email address you must use.

Tracking and Mapping

With the purchase of a Secursat SX1, you will be assigned a user name and password for our mapping service. Where ever you see the map with the "Tracking Map Log In" on it, you can click it and be taken to the mapping service. Enter your user name and password to be taken to a map showing the last reported position of the SX1. You can use the tool bar at the top of the map to navigate, pull up tracking histories, create reports, etc. The "Breadcrumbs" tool is very helpful in bringing up histories and for reviewing your travels. We are developing new uses for both the tracking technology and the software regularly.

Please note that neither the SX1 nor the mapping and reporting software are appropriate for navigation and should not be used as anything other than information sources.

About the Secursat SX1.

The device was developed to keep track of Military Assets in areas when Satellite Communication was the only method possible. Under a licensing agreement we have taken this device as our starting point and enhanced it.

Initially the Secursat SX1 was introduced for Yacht owners who would benefit from being able to see where their boat is at virtually anytime. They are able to know whether it has been moved to dry dock, and follow the boat when it is being relocated in the off-season from their PC or Smartphone. As well it allows for recovery of yachts when they were stolen. We enhanced the product with the addition of an alert switch that enabled a unique message to be sent out in case of an at sea emergency.

As the product has become deployed into this market we have recognized a complimentary use for asset tracking in remote areas on land. We discovered that most of the developed world relies on cell phones to provide genuine peace of mind yet they are an urban phenomenon and once we leave the urban environment our perceived lifeline to safety is severed.

MOST of the planet does NOT have cell phone coverage.

There is the option of using a Satellite phone however they are expensive and they are not discrete, and, they can’t tell anyone exactly where you are. You have to be able to relay your location by voice. In a moment of stress that may not be an option, however the Secursat SX1 can send an alert at the turn of a switch. It can be hidden and then continue to function for months on battery power. It will send your location at that precise moment it is activated and continue to send your location every 15 minutes if the unit is moved more than 300 metres.

No land lines, no cell phones. This is the reality for people who work in these environments. If an Aid Organization has people in a remote location, or in transit between locations and they are equipped with the Secursat SX1, they can be monitored from a PC or Smartphone anywhere in world. All you need is a connection to the Internet. AND if something were to take place that triggered a need for assistance, they could communicate that need by activating the ALERT SWITCH on the SX1.

The SX1 can let it be known where you are at any given time, and it can alert a contact (or multiple contacts) of your location with a unique message that can trigger an outside intervention on your behalf.

We feel that this is a real breakthrough in providing another level of protection for NGO’s, Aid Workers, and Emergency Relief Workers, who put themselves at risk to assist others. In addition it may allow deployment into areas currently not covered due to the risk associated with being “off the grid”.

Monitor from a PC or Smartphone anywhere in world. ………….All you need is a connection to the Internet.
